GUZ Partners Project Advances Lean Management Practices in Uzbekistan’s Textile Industry
Tashkent, Uzbekistan | 5–9 October 2026
A practical training seminar on “Lean Management in Manufacturing” was held from 5 to 9 October 2026 at Nurtex LLC in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, under the guidance of Professor Josef Klein from Albstadt-Sigmaringen University, Germany. The training aimed to strengthen participants’ practical knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and support the implementation of modern production management methods in Uzbekistan’s textile industry.
The seminar was organized within the framework of the GUZ Partners project, implemented by the German Textile Industry Confederation (Gesamtmasche) in cooperation with the Association “Uztextileprom,” with support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through sequa gGmbH.
The five-day programme provided participants with an opportunity to apply lean management principles directly in a real manufacturing environment. Building on the theoretical knowledge gained during the international training programme in Germany, the practical sessions focused on identifying production inefficiencies, reducing waste and improving operational performance.

Under Professor Josef Klein’s guidance, participants worked with key lean manufacturing tools and approaches, including:
• Lean Manufacturing Philosophy and continuous improvement;
• Takt Time and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);
• Production management tools and process optimization;
• Value Stream Mapping (VSM);
• Kaizen and systematic problem-solving;
• Visual Management and standardization;
• Shopfloor Management and effective workplace organization;
• Advanced lean manufacturing practices.
Through practical exercises, observation and analysis of production processes, participants explored ways to improve workflow, make more effective use of resources and establish a culture of continuous improvement within their enterprises.

The seminar brought together representatives of several organizations and enterprises from Uzbekistan’s textile sector, including Bakhmal Group, Nurtex LLC, the Textile Institute, D. Fabio Group, Ideal and other industry stakeholders.
The diverse group of participants created opportunities to exchange professional experience, discuss common production challenges and explore how lean management tools can be adapted to different manufacturing environments.

The active involvement of textile companies and educational institutions also highlighted the importance of cooperation between industry and academia in promoting modern production practices and developing professional competencies.
As part of the practical programme, the participants also visited Yuksak Service Textile, a textile manufacturing enterprise producing denim garments under the F17 Jeans brand.

The visit provided an additional opportunity to observe manufacturing operations, learn about the company’s production processes and compare approaches to organizing and managing production. It also encouraged participants to consider how lean principles can be applied in different manufacturing settings to improve efficiency, streamline workflows and reduce unnecessary losses.
The industrial visit complemented the hands-on training at Nurtex LLC, reinforcing the practical value of benchmarking and experience-sharing among textile enterprises.

The practical seminar represents an important step towards translating international expertise into tangible improvements at the enterprise level. By combining expert guidance, hands-on exercises and visits to manufacturing facilities, the programme enabled participants to deepen their understanding of lean management and identify opportunities for applying these methods in their daily operations.
The GUZ Partners project continues to support the development of Uzbekistan’s textile industry through international cooperation, knowledge transfer and capacity building.
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the practical continuation of the international training seminar on “Lean Management in Manufacturing,” led by Professor Josef Klein from Albstadt-Sigmaringen University, Germany.
