GUZ Partners and TITLI: Shaping the Next Generation of Textile Specialists Through International Certification

At the request of the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry (TITLI), a large-scale open training session was organized under the framework of the “GUZ Partners” project—implemented by Gesamtmasche and the Uztextileprom Association. This event marks a significant step in the professional development of students within the Faculty of Economics.

The session featured invited guest speaker Elizaveta Sokolova, Director of TSS and an active member of the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) initiative, representing the GUZ Partners project.

The central theme of the discussion was “International Standards and Certification: Pathways to Enter Global Markets.” During the session, Elizaveta Sokolova provided an in-depth analysis of the key certification systems that serve as mandatory prerequisites for collaborating with major European and American brands.

The expert focused on the following industry standards:

• OEKO-TEX® Standard 100: Ensuring product safety and the absence of harmful substances.
• GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): The leading standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria.
• BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative): Focusing on social responsibility and improving working conditions in the global supply chain.

As a guest expert for GUZ Partners, Elizaveta Sokolova explained to the future economists that certification is not merely an expense, but a strategic investment. Adhering to recognized international standards allows companies to:

1. Minimize risks associated with product returns and quality claims.
2. Reduce technical barriers to trade during the export process.
3. Ensure a long-term presence within the retail networks of Europe and the USA.
